DPIIT-IPR Chair at HNLU to hold national IPR essay writing competition

The theme of the essay competition is "Navigating IPR Challenges in the Era of AI and Metaverse." The last date to register is December 28 and the essay submission deadline is on January 28, 2025.

The DPIIT-IPR Chair at the Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur, in collaboration with Centre for Innovation and IP Laws (CIIPL) (HNLU), is conducting a national IPR essay writing competition on the theme "Navigating IPR Challenges in the Era of AI and Metaverse."

With the unprecedented challenges posed by the advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Metaverse, the competition provides a platform to explore the interplay between technology and legal frameworks.

The wide scope of the competition's theme encompasses various issues ranging from copyright issues in AI-generated content to trademark disputes in virtual realities, providing ample space for participants to critically analyse, deliberate, and propose innovative solutions.

The initiative is aimed to inspire critical thinking and foster academic discourse on navigating the complexities of IPR.

Eligibility

  • Undergraduate and postgraduate students from any recognized institution in India.

  • Ph.D. research scholars from any recognized institution in India.

Essay Submission Guidelines

Essays must strictly adhere to the theme "Navigating IPR Challenges in the Era of AI and Metaverse."

  • Submissions must be in English.

  • Word limit should not exceed 3000-5000 words excluding footnotes.

  • Formatting:

    • Font: Times New Roman, Size 12

    • Line Spacing: 1.5

    • Footnotes: Times New Roman, Size 10, single spacing (20th Edition Bluebook citation style)

  • The essay must be original and not under consideration for publication elsewhere. Plagiarism beyond 10 per cent will result in disqualification. AI-generated content will be subject to strict scrutiny and may lead to rejection.

  • A maximum of two authors is permitted.

  • Essay must be submitted in .docx format.

  • File name to follow format - [Author Name] [Essay Title]

  • Submissions to be emailed to iprchair@hnlu.ac.in with the subject line: National IPR Essay Submission- [Author Name]

  • Submission Deadline is January 28, 2025.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Relevance to the theme

  • Originality and depth of analysis

  • Clarity of expression

  • Quality of research and referencing

  • Practicality and innovation in solutions proposed

The entries will be judged by a panel of eminent academicians, legal professionals, and IP experts.

Prizes

  • First Prize: ₹20,000/- and a Certifcate of Achievement

  • Second Prize: ₹10,000/- and a Certificate of Achievement

  • Third Prize: ₹5,000/- and a Certificate of Achievement

All participants will also be awarded E-Certificates of Participation. The competition will receive a limited number of entries. Top essays will be published in the form of a book.
