The Gujarat Maritime University (GMU), in association with the Dhaka International University (DIU), has commenced registrations for its five-day Certificate Course on International Maritime Law.
Although over 90 per cent of trade and commerce is dependent upon maritime law, it is still a sector shrouded in invisibility. It is a less-known fact about the shipping industry that a ship can be operated from one country, flagged for operational reasons to another and then has crew from yet another nation.
Increasing mobility in the maritime space has led to various scenarios, such as ship arrests and cargo claims, providing excellent opportunities for experts in maritime law.
The International Maritime Law Certificate Course offered by GMU in association with the DIU is aimed to cover a wide range of areas related to maritime law including ocean governance, marine environment, admiralty law, and carriage of goods by sea.
Topics that will be covered in the course include:
Introduction to the Law of the Sea
Law of Carriage of Goods by Sea
Laws applicable to the Ocean, Climate Change and Marine Pollution
International Fisheries Governance
Maritime Dispute Settlement
Applications are invited from students, legal professionals, and industry experts who are keen to enhance their knowledge and expertise in maritime law.
The course will be conducted online via the WebEx platform from February 12th - 16th, 2025, with interactive sessions led by renowned academicians and experts in the field.
