
Shree Guru Gobind Singh Tricentenary University (SGT University), Gurugram has set up the Sudhir Mishra Centre for ESG, Environmental Law and Climate Change (SMCEC) in their campus.
Sudhir Mishra, being an environmental lawyer, was recently appointed as the amici curiae by the Supreme Court of India in the matter Ridhima Pandey v Union of India (Civil Appeal No. 388 of 2021).
Speaking on the institution of the Centre, Sudhir Mishra said, "It is an honour and privilege to have an ESG and Climate law Centre in my name. Apart from just being a matter of pride, it comes with a whole set of responsibilities as a bunch of younger generation of environmental and climate enthusiasts will now be looking up to me for inspired action. My duty as an environment crusader has now doubled and I will ensure to put in a hundred percent effort to deliver the same and make the Centre a foremost centre of excellence”.
SGT University decided to honour subject experts by setting up research centres in their name.
The Sudhir Mishra Centre for ESG, Environmental Law & Climate Change (SMCEC) is inspired by the work of the Central Empowered Committee of the Supreme Court. The Committee is an environmental law management body that has passed series of orders and monitored flora, fauna, and protected areas across the country in the past two decades.
The objective of the SMCEC will be to serve as a student think tank and climate change ESG research hub. It will also work for community engagement initiatives.
Founder & Managing Trustee, SGT University, Manmohan Chawla stated on the formation of the Centre, “We are very glad that Mr. Mishra has agreed to setting up of the Centre in his name. I am confident that with the stature and extensive experience of Mr. Mishra in the field of environmental and climate law, both nationally and internationally, the Centre would be the best in its field in the coming times. We surely are in safe hands.”
The Centre also plans to work in collaboration and partnership with private and governmental organizations, embassies, corporate sustainability departments, pollution control boards, and other institutes of eminence.
Dean, Faculty of Law, SGT University, Dr Richa Chaudhary commented, “The Centre aims to bring to its students the best of academic knowledge coupled with Direct industry interface through internships and collaborative projects, which would equip them for a better future”.
SGT University offers a range of courses which include undergraduate, post-graduate and doctoral programs.
The Centre will work along with the firm, Trust Legal Advocates & Consultants, founded by Sudhir Mishra and will be headed by the Dean, Faculty of Law, Dr Richa Chaudhary. Student coordinators from the college along with the patron-in-chief, Manmohan Singh Chawla and patron, Sudhir Mishra.
Partners and their teams of Trust Legal will be actively involved in the working of the Centre. Partner Petal Chandhok and Senior Associate Swasti Misra of Trust Legal will act as the ex-officio members of the Centre.
