
An inspection conducted at the canteen of National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR) Hyderabad on February 4 by the Commissioner of Food Safety, Telangana has uncovered food safety violations - expired and unlabelled raw ingredients, pest infestations and missing health certifications.
The inspection by the Commissioner of Food Safety, Telangana has revealed multiple violations, including an FSSAI license registered at an incorrect address, the absence of a Food Safety Training and Certification (FoSTaC) trained supervisor and a lack of proper pest control measures.
The canteen is run by Sri Sai Ganesh Caterers.
In response to the urgent demands of the student body, the administration held a meeting at 2 PM today and has conveyed that the mess kitchen has been closed till February 13. An alternative mess arrangement will be in place until then.
No response was received from the NALSAR administration at the time of publishing this story.
University Response [February 6, 2025]:
The administration first received information of the food safety issue on January 31, 2025, after which an inspection committee led by the Registrar was formed to thoroughly inspect the mess. A detailed report was submitted to the Vice-Chancellor and as per recommendations, a pest control treatment and a comprehensive cleaning drive in the mess area was undertaken.
A show cause notice has been issued to the caterer and the University is in the process of implementation of all measures prescribed by the FSSAI.
