
The Karnataka Chapter of Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access to Legal Education (IDIA) in collaboration with Khaitan & Co is organizing an Essay Writing Competition.
IDIA is a non-profit, student-run movement that aims to empower underprivileged and marginalised children through legal education.
It is conducting this essay competition as a part of its fundraising activities to support its initiatives. Khaitan and Co, which is supporting IDIA in organising the competition, is one of India’s oldest and largest law firms.
All undergraduate law students - students pursuing integrated law degrees (five years) or standalone law degrees (three years) - are eligible to participate in the essay competition.
Prizes
1st Place: Internship opportunity at Khaitan & Co, along with a ₹5,000 Cash Prize and a Certificate.
2nd Place: ₹3,000 Cash Prize along with a Certificate.
Top 5 Entries overall: Certificates of Merit.
Themes
Participants are requested to base their essay on a topic that substantially deals with an area of commercial or corporate law. The areas of law may include but are not limited to competition law, contract law, corporate governance, insolvency law, insurance law, and securities law. Submissions that fall outside this ambit will be rejected. Suggestive topics include:
Intersection of data privacy and competition law in India
SEBI and fin-influencer regulation
Revisiting the corporate purpose debate in India
Fiduciary duty of promoters in India
Regulating competition in the digital sphere
SEBI Amendment to "Connected Persons" definition in Prohibition of Insider Trading Regulations
Who can participate?
Law students pursuing the 5-year or 3-year LLB courses are eligible to participate in the essay competition.
Submission Guidelines
All Essays must comply with the following requirements before submission:
Word Count: 5000-7000 words, exclusive of footnotes
Number of Authors: Both single-authored pieces and co-authored pieces with 2 co-authors are allowed.
Citation Style: 4th Edition of OSCOLA
Font: Times New Roman; Font Size: 12
Line Spacing: 1.5
Anonymity: No mention of name, email, university, or any other identifying details. A submission will be automatically rejected if any identifying details are present.
Registration and Submission Deadlines
Registrations opened on February 15 and will close on March 10, 2025.
The last date to submit the essay is March 15, 2025.
Registration Fee
The registration fee for a single-authored piece is ₹250, and the registration fee for a co-authored piece is ₹450.
